The City's Fleet Technician job offers a unique opportunity to work on specialized vehicles such as police cars and firetrucks, with regular daytime hours Monday-Friday. This role is part of a career development track, including Fleet Technician I, II, and III levels based on qualifications. Responsibilities include performing diagnostic, maintenance, and repair work on trucks, cars, and other mechanical equipment to ensure fleet safety and readiness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on various City-owned vehicles and equipment
  • General metal fabrication and welding
  • Operate vehicles and equipment, assist in parts loading/unloading, and transport to vendors
  • Assist with purchasing and inventory management
  • Maintain shop organization and cleanliness
  • Perform emergency repairs during operations such as snow removal

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational coursework preferred
  • Experience with light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks and construction equipment
  • Associates Degree or certifications accepted in lieu of experience
  • Valid CDL Class A with air brakes and tanker endorsements or ability to obtain within 180 days

Entry-level salary begins at $24.50/hour; senior-level begins at $28.00/hour, with certifications like ASE preferred.

Work Schedule: Typically eight-hour days, Monday-Friday, with options for four 10s in summer, and emergency shifts as needed for snow, ice, or other emergencies.
