The City of Glendale Fleet Division is proud to be recognized as No. 5 among government fleet departments in the nation.

Join our Team as a Fleet Technician. The ideal candidate performs intermediate maintenance and repair work, including routine mechanical work and minor overhauls to various fleet equipment.

This position involves performing maintenance and repairs on fleet equipment, with responsibilities varying depending on assignment to automotive or heavy equipment.

Assignments:

Automotive Assignment

• Repairs and preventive maintenance on light-duty and medium-duty fleet vehicles, including police patrol, passenger vehicles, trucks, motorcycles, and landscaping equipment.
• Maintain all vehicle systems: engine, transmission, driveline, suspension, steering, brakes, electrical, HVAC.

Heavy Equipment Assignment

• Repairs and maintenance on gasoline and diesel-powered heavy equipment such as trucks, tractors, fire apparatus, etc.
• Maintain all vehicle systems including hydraulic systems.

Additional duties include troubleshooting computerized systems, fabricating and welding, ordering supplies, and maintaining records. The role requires a minimum of five years of experience as a skilled equipment mechanic, with relevant certifications preferred.

Minimum qualifications include:

• Knowledge of mechanical trades, safety procedures, welding techniques, and hazardous materials handling.
• Ability to diagnose and repair vehicle and equipment malfunctions, mentor technicians, interpret manuals, estimate repair costs, and operate city vehicles.

Special requirements include:

• Valid Arizona Driver's License
• Work shifts as assigned, including standby duties
• Certifications in air conditioning, emissions testing, and possibly CDL with endorsements
• Drug and alcohol testing compliance

This position involves physical tasks such as lifting up to 100 pounds, extensive walking, and exposure to various environmental hazards. Candidates must be able to operate city vehicles and meet all safety and licensing requirements.
