Job summary

Columbia County Highway & Transportation seeks a full-time, senior shop manager to assist the Highway Commissioner in overseeing equipment, facilities, shop operations and inventory. The role includes planning, assigning and supervising staff, maintaining fleet records and coordinating preventative maintenance and repairs.

On-call weekends and nights are required. Qualified candidates have at least five years in maintenance or supervisory roles, or a related field with two years of supervisory

Qualifications

• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in planning, maintaining, operating, training or supervising mechanics and other personnel responsible for maintenance and replacement of equipment and facilities
• Or a combination of field experience and vocational/technical school education in Diesel Mechanics, Heavy Machinery, Automotive Technology or related field, plus at least two (2) years of supervisory experience

Responsibilities

• Assist the Highway Commissioner with managing and maintaining department equipment, facilities and shop operations
• Plan and assign work; supervise and train employees
• Maintain fleet and equipment records; oversee preventive maintenance and repairs
• Oversee fuel systems and inventory; ensure safety and compliance
• On-call weekend and night duties as required

Full-time senior shop management position with Columbia County Highway & Transportation. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting the Highway Commissioner with the management and maintenance of department equipment, facilities, shop operations, fuel systems and inventory; planning and assigning work; supervising and training employees; maintaining fleet and equipment records; and overseeing preventative maintenance and repair operations. Weekend and night on-call responsibilities are required. Qualifications: A minimum of five (5) years of experience in planning, maintaining, operating, training or supervising mechanics and other personnel responsible for the maintenance and replacement of equipment and facilities; OR a combinations of field experience and vocational or technical school education in Diesel Mechanics, Heavy Machinery, Automotive Technology or a related field, and a minimum of two (2) years of responsible supervisory experience. Driver’s License with Class A Commercial Driver’s and H and N endorsements required DATCP Fuelt System A/B certification required within six (6) months of hire. Hire Rate: $40.840 per hour.
