ERG is a 36-location equipment rental company operating across the Southeast with over $300 million in OEC. Summary:

The Fleet Performance Manager is responsible for improving the productivity, utilization, and financial performance of ERG’s fleet across all branches and regions.

This is a mid-senior level role focused on fleet strategy, asset deployment, transportation efficiency, and forward-looking fleet planning. This person will work closely with Regional Managers, Branch Managers, Procurement, Sales, Service, and Operations leadership to ensure ERG is getting the highest possible return from the fleet we own.

This is not a fleet coordinator or reporting role. The Fleet Performance Manager is expected to identify opportunities, challenge current fleet placement, make recommendations, support field decisions, and proactively move equipment to where it can produce the greatest return. The successful candidate will operate with the mindset that ERG has one fleet, regardless of which branch or region currently holds the asset.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Monitor fleet utilization, OEC on rent, idle time, and productivity across branches, regions, equipment categories, and individual assets.


• Develop actionable recommendations to relocate, sell, place on RPO, or otherwise reposition underutilized equipment.


• Partner with Regional and Branch Managers to balance fleet availability with customer demand and resolve competing equipment needs.


• Evaluate fleet transfers based on demand, rental rates, transportation costs, customer opportunities, and expected return; track results to ensure movements improve utilization and revenue.


• Coordinate with Procurement and Operations to plan the placement of incoming fleet based on current utilization, market conditions, seasonal demand, and upcoming projects.


• Track new equipment from arrival through first rental and address assets that are not generating revenue within expected timeframes.


• Reduce re-rent and outside-hauling costs by improving visibility into ERG-owned equipment, internal transportation capacity, transfers, and backhaul opportunities.


• Monitor freight revenue against transportation expenses and recommend improvements to freight recovery and cost control.


• Develop forward-looking fleet plans that anticipate customer demand, market opportunities, seasonal trends, branch openings, potential shortages, and excess capacity.


• Analyze fleet and transportation data to identify enterprise-wide trends, quantify the financial impact of decisions, and provide Operations leadership with clear, high-value action plans.


• Follow up with field leaders to ensure recommendations are implemented and produce the expected operational and financial results.

Preferred qualifications include:

• Seven (7+) years of experience in equipment rental, fleet management, transportation, operations, logistics, or a related industry.


• Experience managing or influencing operations across multiple locations or markets.


• Strong understanding of fleet utilization, asset deployment, transportation, and rental economics.


• Experience analyzing operational and financial data.


• Demonstrated ability to improve performance through operational changes.


• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.


• Proven ability to make decisions in a fast-moving operating environment.


• Bachelor’s degree preferred, but significant industry and operational experience may be considered in place of a degree.
