Job summary

Stony Brook University is seeking a Transportation Supervisor 1 to plan, schedule, and supervise daily vehicle operations and staff for campus transportation services. The position requires NYS Civil Service eligibility, a CDL-B with passenger endorsement, and the ability to meet NY HELPS program conditions.

Qualifications

• Must have taken and passed the specific job-related Civil Service Exam and be reachable on the Civil Service list.
• Possess a NYS CDL Class B Driver’s License with Passenger and Air Brakes; 19A certification may be required.
• Experience options include: current NYS employee with one year of permanent non-competitive service as Motor Vehicle Operator or Bus Driver; or three years in fleet operations or daily dispatching of 30+ vehicles; or six years overseeing vehicle maintenance for 30+ vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Plan and schedule daily work assignments for university vehicles.
• Maintain vehicle utilization, fuel, mileage, and work-order records; review driver reports and coordinate repairs.
• Supervise transportation staff, manage time and attendance, and prepare performance evaluations.
• Utilize university software systems (e.g., SBU Smart Transit, SBU Fuel Station, Petrovend) to dispatch vehicles and monitor operations.
• Coordinate with Disability Support Services for para-transit transportation and with outside vendors as needed.
• Ensure compliance with 55 b/c designation and NY HELPS program requirements as applicable.
