Job summary

Collins and Associates Corporation is seeking a Fleet Operations Specialist to assess and mitigate risks for clients with commercial vehicle operations. You will conduct safety audits, lead risk-control initiatives, and design targeted training to improve client safety performance.

The role requires expertise in fleet safety, DOT regulations, and loss prevention, with collaboration across account managers, sales, and insured clients. Based at our Grand Rapids HQ with travel as needed.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Conduct safety audits and provide recommendations to mitigate hazards and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Lead Safety Committees and monitor progress to improve safety practices.
• Design and deliver training modules, document participation and assess effectiveness.
• Develop and present materials on safety, loss control, and compliance for stakeholders.
• Coordinate with carrier loss control reps to optimize risk management for clients.
• Set Risk Control goals for self-insured clients and plan activities to meet objectives.
• Track LMS usage and report on safety training delivery and outcomes.
• Support sales staff with hazard counseling to raise client risk awareness.
• Help increase revenue by offering loss prevention services.
• Attend prospect meetings to discuss Loss Prevention services.
• Investigate accidents, recommend corrective actions, and analyze loss trends.

A successful Fleet Operations Specialist should demonstrate strong technical expertise in safety regulations and audits, effectively identifying hazards and ensuring compliance. They will play a critical role in assessing, advising, and mitigating risks for clients with commercial vehicle operations. They will specialize in fleet safety, DOT compliance, and loss control strategies, helping insured businesses reduce their exposure to accidents, regulatory violations, and financial losses. Working closely with account managers, sales team and insured clients, they will provide expert guidance on best practices in fleet safety management, regulatory compliance, and accident prevention.

Job Responsibilities:

• Conduct detailed safety audits, providing recommendations to mitigate hazards and ensure compliance with governmental regulations
• Establish and lead Safety Committees, setting goals and monitoring progress to enhance safety practices
• Design and deliver customized training modules, documenting participation and assessing effectiveness to improve client safety awareness
• Develop and participate in presentations on safety, loss control, and regulatory compliance for various stakeholders
• Review underwriting requests, oversee assignments, and coordinate services with carrier loss control representatives to optimize risk management
• Set and implement Risk Control goals for self-insured clients, developing activities to meet objectives
• Utilize learning management systems (LMS) and other technologies to enhance the delivery, tracking, and reporting of safety and EHS training programs efficiently
• Provide industry-specific hazard counseling and recommendations to sales staff to enhance client risk awareness
• Increase departmental revenue by delivering tailored loss prevention services and programs to clients
• Attending prospect meetings to discuss Loss Prevention Services to potential clients
• Conduct accident investigations, recommend corrective actions, and analyze loss trends to develop effective action plans
• Track time, budget, and invoicing, participating in client renewals and ensuring financial compliance
• Communicate effectively with the Claims Management team on incident investigation, reporting procedures, and corrective actions

Required Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a Loss Control Consultant or similar role in Fleet Management/Safety or DOT Compliance
• Working knowledge of Fleet/DOT regulations & compliance standards
• Current knowledge of effective learning and development methods
• Experience in project management and budgeting
• Proficiency in software: MS Office Suite, Learning Management Systems, Canva, Teams, Trello, AI voice-over, Chat GPT, Zoom, Dropbox, and Brainshark or other Learning Management System
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Ability to build rapport with customers and vendors
• Degree or certificates in a relevant field or equivalent experience (Safety, EHS, or Risk Management); certificates are a plus
• Experience in customer-facing roles or consulting is desirable
• Ability to travel as needed for customer engagements

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with e-learning platforms and practices
• This position is based at our Commercial HQ in Grand Rapids/Ada, MI.
• Driver’s license and good driving history required.
• Up to daily localized travel with occasional overnights required
• Hours for the role is as follows: 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday – Thursday, 8:00am – 4:30pm Friday (Memorial Day through Labor Day we close at 4:00pm on Friday)
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, hear, and project voice well enough without amplification. There is frequent need for the employee to stand, sit, walk, use hands and fingers, employ repetitive small motor activity, and reach with hands and arms
• The employee is occasionally required to lift and carry up to 30 pounds; to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and to ascend and descend stairs.
• This position requires a high energy level and ability to handle stress-related situations daily
