Job summary
Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is seeking an experienced Manager of Vehicle Engineering to lead the Vehicle Engineering Branch (BUSV). The role directs bus development, procurement, and rehabilitation with a focus on safety, reliability, and performance within budget and schedule constraints.
The position requires strategic oversight of engineering design, testing, and vendor coordination, plus supervision and staff development.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field
- Eight years of experience in vehicle engineering project management and contract management
- Experience supervising engineering design, installation, and maintenance efforts
- ASE certification preferred (optional)
Responsibilities
- Participates in procurement efforts, identifying design and contract issues and coordinating corrective actions
- Manages scope, budgets, and resources to meet project needs
- Coordinates across offices to ensure conformance to project plan and budget
- Reviews contract specifications and bids for award decisions
- Directs QA programs and rehabilitation/replacement of vehicles
- Supervises staff, trains personnel, and defines work plans
