Job summary

Forward Air Corp. seeks a Forklift Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain tractors, forklifts, and MHE at a multimodal terminal. You will prioritize work orders with safety in mind and ensure equipment uptime for operations.

Responsibilities include completing detailed work orders, performing DOT inspections, and supporting parts and tool management. On-site role with standard weekday schedule in Groveport, OH.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational training preferred.
• Forklift certification and CDL Class A or B highly preferred; ASE/DOT inspector certs preferred.
• Experience repairing tractor trailers, forklifts, and MHE is required.
• Strong diagnostic abilities across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, repair docs.
• Skilled with hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop machinery.
• Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
• Discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
• Proficient with Windows, Microsoft 365, and web conferencing tools.
• On-site role with travel for related meetings/events.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain tractor trailers, including engines, brakes, suspensions, electrical, and other systems.
• Perform maintenance on all forklift types: propane, electric, diesel, sit‑down, stand‑up, specialty units.
• Troubleshoot and maintain MHE such as pallet jacks, order pickers, reach trucks, and other warehouse equipment.
• Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance according to manufacturer and company standards.
• Complete work orders with diagnostics, parts used, repairs, and follow-up needs.
• Conduct DOT-compliant inspections and ensure tractor trailer repairs meet regulatory requirements.
• Identify root causes of recurring issues and recommend uptime improvements.
• Maintain a safe, clean, organized workspace per OSHA standards.
• Coordinate with operations leadership to prioritize repairs and minimize workflow disruption.
• Assist in inventorying, ordering, and managing parts, tools, and maintenance supplies.
• Support equipment installations, component replacements, and system upgrades.
• Ensure all work meets quality standards and manufacturer specifications.
• Provide input on trends to inform future maintenance planning.
• All other duties as assigned.
