Job summary

R-2 Contractors is seeking a hands-on Fleet Mechanical Engineer to support development, reliability, and lifecycle performance of our construction fleet. This role requires collaboration across Fleet, Operations, Estimating, Project Management, and leadership and involves travel to shops and active sites.

You will design modifications, analyze failures, and help ensure safety and efficiency, with a mix of shop-floor work and project planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• CAD design experience and fabrication drawing development.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and cross-department collaboration.
• Willingness to work in shops and active construction environments and travel to jobsites.
• Ability to manage projects from concept through implementation.
• Team player, organized, self-driven, and able to balance field needs with engineering.

Responsibilities

• Modify equipment to improve productivity, safety, reliability, or serviceability.
• Design custom components and attachments and produce fabrication drawings.
• Field-test prototypes and document final designs for replication across the fleet.
• Evaluate structural, hydraulic, and electrical requirements and ensure compliance.
• Develop maintenance strategies and support with OEMs and dealers.
• Collaborate with Fleet, Operations, Estimating, and Project Management.
• Provide shop and field engineering support on active projects.
