Job summary

R-2 Contractors is seeking a hands-on Fleet Mechanical Engineer to support the performance, reliability, and lifecycle of our construction fleet. You will work with Fleet, Operations, Estimating, Project Management, and leadership to implement engineering solutions across shops and active jobsites.

The role requires CAD design skills, experience with heavy equipment, and travel to project sites. A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering is required, with strong problem‑solving and teamwork

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to understand mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• CAD design experience and ability to develop fabrication drawings.

Responsibilities

• Identify opportunities to modify equipment to improve productivity, safety, reliability, or serviceability.
• Design custom equipment components, attachments, guards, brackets, platforms, storage systems, hydraulic systems, and other modifications.
• Produce CAD models, drawings, and specifications suitable for fabrication.
• Coordinate prototype fabrication with internal mechanics/fabricators and outside vendors.
• Field-test prototypes and modify designs based on results.
• Document final designs so successful modifications can be replicated across the fleet.
• Evaluate structural loads and hydraulic requirements as needed.
• Ensure modifications do not affect safety, capacity, or regulatory compliance.
