Job summary

R-2 Contractors is seeking a hands-on Fleet Mechanical Engineer to support development, reliability, efficiency, and lifecycle performance of our construction fleet. Travel to project sites and shop locations is required; hybrid work includes time in the Prineville, OR shops and on active jobsites.

Collaborate across Fleet, Operations, Estimating, Project Management, and leadership to design modifications, test prototypes, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in mechanical engineering or closely related discipline.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• CAD design experience with fabrication drawings.

Responsibilities

• Identify opportunities to modify equipment to improve productivity, safety, reliability, or serviceability.
• Design components, guards, platforms, and hydraulic systems for equipment modifications.
• Produce CAD models, drawings, and fabrication specifications.
• Develop solutions for field problems where off-the-shelf solutions are unavailable.
• Coordinate prototype fabrication and test prototypes in shops and on sites.
• Document final designs for replication across fleet.
• Analyze loads, hydraulics, and safety; ensure compliance.
• Work with mechanics to troubleshoot failures and support field engineering.
