Job summary

Manatee County Government is seeking a skilled automotive mechanic to support fleet repair and preventive maintenance at multiple Bradenton work sites. The role involves inspections, routine service, and repairs across engines, hydraulics, and driveline systems.

Senior technicians lead lower-level staff and ensure accurate reporting. A complete tool set and state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment are used daily, with on-site outdoor/indoor work in a safety‑sensitive environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Tech I requires ASE/NATEF cert or within 6 months.
• Tech II requires 3 active ASE/NATEF certs.
• Tech III requires 4 active ASE/NATEF certs.
• Senior requires 5 active ASE/NATEF certs.
• CDL Class B with passenger and air brakes endorsements before offer.

Responsibilities

• Check vehicles and open work orders.
• Inspect vehicles/equipment and open computerized work orders.
• Perform maintenance: 32-point inspections, oil changes, fluid checks, batteries and tires.
• Repair or assist with repairs to engines, hydraulics, transmissions, brakes, etc.
• May weld or cut to fabricate/repair points.
• Inspect and adjust front end and suspension alignment.
