Job summary

Sukup Manufacturing Co. in Sheffield, Iowa seeks a Fleet Mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain a diverse fleet of company vehicles and plant equipment. The role focuses on safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance across DOT/OSHA standards.

The candidate should have an automotive background, read technical manuals, and be willing to perform overtime and some Saturdays. CDL is a plus, welding experience is a bonus.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Post secondary automotive certification or training preferred.
• Strong automotive and hydraulic background.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams and schematics.
• Welding or fabrication experience a plus.
• Must have a valid driver’s license, CDL a plus.
• Overtime hours and some Saturdays will be required.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair company vehicles, including trucks, vans, forklifts, etc.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance to minimize downtime.
• Maintain accurate service records and logs for fleet equipment.
• Troubleshoot engines, transmission, electrical, brake, suspension, and hydraulic systems.
• Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and internal policies.
• Maintain inventory of parts, tools, and fluids for fleet operations.
• Collaborate with plant and logistics teams to schedule repairs without production disruption.
• Support and train equipment operators on proper vehicle use and basic maintenance.
• Perform emergency roadside service calls when necessary.
• Assist with onboarding and inspecting new fleet equipment for compliance.
