Fleet Mechanic - Parks Department
Full Time Position
Reports to Manager of Parks

General Summary:
The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for performing preventative maintenance along with the diagnosing and repairing engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical and hydraulic systems related to vehicles and light and heavy-duty equipment. Performs engine overhauls, performs mechanical repairs and adjustments, and replaces engine parts. Maintains records of vehicle service and repairs. Maintains replacement parts and inventory.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Repair and maintain fleet vehicles in accordance with DOT regulations, federal and state law, manufacturing requirements and industry quality standards.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and complete repairs. Perform regular preventive maintenance. The position also requires operating vehicles to perform road tests of vehicles and operators.
- Receives work orders for mechanical projects for a variety of District machines, equipment, and fleet vehicles.
- Inspect and perform maintenance on diesel and gas engines, transmissions, hydraulic, mechanical, two stroke, electrical, and pneumatic components to diagnose issues accurately.
- Strictly adhere to all safety rules, policies and procedures required by the District, the law, and as recognized as common practice in the industry. Utilizes all shop tools safely and accurately.
- Schedule future fleet maintenance sessions and advises staff on good vehicle use.
- Provide accurate estimates (cost, time, effort) for a repair or maintenance jobs.
- May drive to various vendors and pick up parts or transport parts.
- Keep logs on work and issues using UpKeep software system.
- Maintain equipment, tools, and shop in an organized, safe, and clean condition.
- Work with all District personnel in a cooperative and professional manner.
- Seasonal requirements may include, but not limited to assisting with park maintenance, facility maintenance, snow removal and other duties as assigned.
- May occasionally perform other duties outside of normal job duties to help with other departments.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, practices, techniques, and procedures involved with mechanical and electronic components of vehicles/machinery.
- Knowledge of mechanical principles related to the functioning of various types of equipment and engines including both gasoline and diesel.
- Proven experience as a mechanic. Ability to read manuals, schematics and other printed material and use that information to accomplish needed repairs.
- Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Skills and knowledge in operating a personal computer (PC).
- Skill in the use and care of tools employed in all phases of repair and maintenance.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and maintain records using the English Language.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with others.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job.

- Accomplishes maintenance and departments mission by completing related results as needed.
Working Environment/Physical Activities:
- Standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, kneeling, working in confined areas, reaching overhead, pushing, pulling, grasping, lifting, and carrying up to 100 lbs., driving, sitting, writing, speaking and hearing.
- Work in both indoor and outdoor environment with weather and temperature extremes.
- Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays, if needed. Must be able to be on-call at managers discretion.
Education, Certifications & Experience:
- High School Graduate or GED required.
- Completion of Vo-Tech program or ASE certifications required.
- A minimum of 3-years of automotive repair and maintenance, including diesel engines experience required.
- Valid State of Colorado Driver License with a good driving record.
- Must have a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) at time of hire or obtain within 12 months of employment.
