Job summary

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) in New York seeks an Associate/Assistant Director – Fleet Management to centralize control and optimize Metro North's rolling stock usage. This role directs real-time decisions to allocate equipment for service and maintenance while reducing asset needs and operating costs.

Responsibilities include supervising Fleet Managers and Clerks, coordinating maintenance, tracking fleet readiness, and driving safety and efficiency across operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Transportation, Engineering and/or related field; equivalent education, experience or credentials may be considered.
• Minimum five (5) years in a Rail Transit Operation environment with fleet planning, movement or deployment of equipment and/or equipment maintenance.
• Minimum three (3) years’ experience managing a workforce, process or project.

Responsibilities

• Direct trains to ensure safety regulations, operational requirements, equipment availability, and service schedules.
• Coordinate and oversee movement of scheduled and non-scheduled maintenance and repairs.
• Monitor fleet availability, defect trends, and out-of-service records; analyze consist shortages and schedule equipment cycles.
• Lead inter-departmental coordination to enhance efficiency and communication; ensure timely information exchange for safe service delivery.
