Job summary

Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas seeks a skilled Fleet Maintenance Technician II to join the Fleet Services team. You will perform maintenance and repairs on a wide range of vehicles and equipment, diagnosing issues in gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, suspensions, and hydraulic systems.

The role requires hands-on problem solving with a focus on safety and reliability for the county fleet.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required; repair and maintenance experience essential.
ASE certification preferred but not mandatory.
CDL Class B with airbrake endorsement must be obtained within six months.

Responsibilities

Perform maintenance and major repairs on gasoline and diesel engines, manuals and automatics, differentials, brakes, suspension, electrical, fuel, cooling, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
Conduct chassis and suspension repairs, including alignments.
Inspect, repair, and replace tires on automotive and equipment vehicles.
Service and repair air conditioning systems.
Weld and fabricate as needed.
Repair small engine equipment and components.
Provide emergency road service, towing, and on-site repairs when required.
Operate equipment during emergencies within Wyandotte County.
Assist other technicians with complex repairs and projects.
Maintain and service car wash systems, fuel pumps, gates, and fleet equipment.
