Job summary

City of Roanoke is seeking a motivated fleet technician to service and maintain automotive and light/heavy construction equipment. The role includes greasing, oil changes, battery work, tire maintenance, and equipment washing.

Requires a high school diploma or GED and 1–3 years of related experience, with CDL endorsements obtainable within 6 months and ASE certification within 2.5 years. This is a non-exempt, on-site position offering opportunities to expand skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and 1–3 years related experience or training.
• CDL with appropriate endorsements within 6 months of employment.
• ASE certification required within 2.5 years of employment.
• Ability to read and interpret safety and maintenance instructions.

Responsibilities

• Operate street sweeper, dump truck, and other equipment as assigned.
• Grease, oil changes, battery service, tire changes, and general maintenance.
• Perform light mechanical repairs and part replacements.
• Assist with snow removal and event support as needed, including nights/weekends.
• Maintain inventory of tools and equipment; assist with training of other operators.
• Communicate effectively and work with teams to complete tasks.
