Job summary

The City of Roanoke, Virginia, is seeking a driven applicant to maintain and service automotive and construction equipment within the Fleet Division. You will grease, oil, change tires and perform light to heavy maintenance on municipal vehicles, including wreckers and tankers.

Requires a high school diploma or GED, 1–3 years in related work, with CDL endorsements within 6 months and ASE certification within 2.5 years. This is a non-exempt, on-site role with opportunities to expand skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; 1–3 years related experience or training in motorized equipment operation and heavy manual labor.
• CDL with appropriate endorsements must be obtained within 6 months of employment; ASE certification required within 2.5 years.

Responsibilities

• Operate street sweeper and dump truck; load/unload dirt, timber, chemicals, refuse and materials.
• Operate light equipment such as riding mowers, forklift, chipper, ice resurfacing machine.
• Perform maintenance tasks and minor repairs on equipment and buildings.
• Assist with inventory, set up events, snow removal, and emergency tasks as needed.
• Grease, lubricate, change oil and filters on varied equipment; service tires and batteries.
