Job summary

The City of Pflugerville seeks a Fleet Supervisor to oversee the City’s Fleet shop operations in alignment with policies and regulations. You will direct assigned personnel, schedule work, and ensure safe, efficient maintenance of vehicles and equipment for city departments.

You will manage inspections, inventory, and budget input, supervise maintenance tasks, oversee tool and equipment upkeep, and coordinate with city management on purchases and repairs.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5 years of related experience; 3 years supervisory.
  • Valid Class C Texas driver license; State Vehicle Inspection Certification.
  • Preferred: Class B CDL Texas license; ASE certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and review work of assigned personnel; train staff.
  • Ensure compliance with City and department standards.
  • Oversee fabrication of tools and equipment; monitor status.
  • Conduct scheduled inspections and inventory procedures.
  • Assist others; respond to emergencies; maintain records.

Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Fleet and Facilities Manager, carries out all responsibilities in accordance with clearly established departmental policies & procedures, City codes and ordinances, and state and federal regulations; exercises some judgement and initiative; interfaces frequently with City management, and other City employees. Ensure the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the City’s Fleet shop.

Essential Job Functions and Other Important Duties
  • Provide direction to assigned personnel; schedule and review work; train employees; make recommendations regarding hiring, promoting and disciplining employees.
  • Ensure assigned personnel comply with established City and departmental standards and procedures; recommend departmental policies and procedures.
  • Oversee and participate in the fabrication of special tools and equipment. Maintains vehicle and equipment status. ?
  • Manages scheduled inspection and inventory procedures
  • Conduct required state vehicle inspections on City vehicles.
  • Oversee and participate in performing routine maintenance and repair on City vehicles.
  • Account for warranty and manufacturer recalls impacting the City fleet.
  • Provide input for Fleet budget. ?Make recommendations regarding the purchase of vehicles, aftermarket, equipment, parts, supplies and bench stock.
  • Oversee and participate in the maintenance of City tools and equipment in a safe and effective operating condition; make minor repairs and adjustments as necessary; report unsafe or inoperable equipment to department management or make arrangements for required repair/replacement.
  • Assist other departments as required.
  • Remains accessible via personal cell phone to address job-related issues or emergencies using City applications.
  • Other duties as required.
Job Qualifications

Formal Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
Relatable Work Experience: Five (5) years of experience in increasingly responsible related positions. Three (3) years of supervisory experience.
Training, Licenses, and Certifications: Valid Class C Texas driver license. State Vehicle Inspection Certification, State of Texas and ASE Certified or the ability to acquire within 6 months.
Preferred Qualifications: Valid Class B CDL Texas driver license.

Disclaimer: Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed & Environmental Factors and Other Physical Requirements:

Knowledge of fabrication processes and maintenance of City vehicles and equipment.
Knowledge with operating welding equipment, vehicle inspection equipment, light trucks, tractor, shredder, auger, lawn tractor, trencher, weed eater, trailer, shop tools, hand tools, dump truck, high pressure cleaner, backhoe, maintainer, and front-end loader.
Skill in utilizing a personal computer, associated software programs, including Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to establish and maintain professionally effective relationships with external public/vendors, internal management and non-management employees, and City and other government officials.
Ability to develop, implement, and administer goals, objectives, and procedures for providing effective and efficient services for the City; ability to effectively supervise personnel.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, as well as strong time and task management skills. ?
Subject to sitting and standing to perform essential functions in an office/outside environment; may be expose to extreme weather conditions
Visual acuity, speech, and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate office equipment
Regularly scheduled for 4-day, 40-hour workweek, Monday through Thursday; overtime occasionally required.
Strenuous and continuous physical activity, including stooping, kneeling, bending, and digging.
Lifting - up to 80 lbs.
Operation of all departmental vehicles, equipment, and hand tools.
