Job summary

Rockwall County Maintenance & Operations seeks a skilled technician to conduct preventative maintenance and repairs on County owned vehicles. This role will diagnose issues, perform oil changes, emissions testing, and minor repairs, while ensuring safety and compliance.

Responsibilities include operating shop tools, coordinating with vendors, maintaining inventory, and staying updated on vehicle technologies.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License.
  • ASE certification A1-A9 or G1 with ability to obtain others.
  • EPA 609 Certification or ability to obtain.
  • Must obtain TX DPS vehicle inspector's certificate within 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventative maintenance to ensure proper vehicle function.
  • Performs oil, lube and filter changes, and air filter changes.
  • Diagnostics on vehicles using electronic scan equipment.
  • Minor vehicle repairs such as belt, hose, brake components replacements.
  • Evaluates repairs needed and advises fleet directors.
  • Operates hand, power and shop tools.
  • Cleans and maintains shop facilities and equipment.
  • Responds to service calls and retrieves or repairs vehicles in the field.
  • Transports vehicles to various locations.
  • Collaborates with vendors.
  • Performs vehicle emissions testing.
  • Attends training to stay current in vehicle repairs.
  • Maintains inventory for common vehicle repairs and maintenance.
  • Troubleshoots, removes, installs emergency vehicle equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance & Operations

SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to conduct preventative maintenance and repairs on County owned vehicles.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs preventative maintenance necessary to ensure the proper functioning of vehicles and component parts
  • Performs oil, lube and filter changes, air filter changes
  • Performs vehicle diagnostics using electronic scan equipment
  • Performs minor vehicle repair such as belt and hose replacements, brake pads, shoes, drums and rotor replacement
  • Evaluates repairs needed and safety of vehicle and provides recommendations to fleet directors
  • Operates a variety of hand, power and shop tools
  • Cleans and maintains shop facilities and equipment
  • Responds to service calls for assistance, retrieves or repairs vehicles in the field as needed
  • Transports vehicles to various locations
  • Collaborates with vendors
  • Performs vehicle emissions testing
  • Attends training to stay current in vehicle repairs
  • Maintains inventory for common vehicle repairs and maintenance
  • Troubleshoots, removes, installs emergency vehicle equipment
  • Performs other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY/BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no supervisory or budget responsibility. Reports to Maintenance and Operations Director

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Capable of servicing and repairing modern vehicles
  • Emissions testing for the state of Texas
  • Vehicle diagnostics
  • Working knowledge of automotive HVAC systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems
  • Basic computer skills, preferably experience with asset management software
  • Must be able to communicate well with others
  • Use of two post lift and other common automotive shop tools

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification A1-A9 or G1 with ability to obtain others
  • EPA 609 Certification or ability to obtain
  • Must have or obtain TX DPS vehicle inspector's certificate within 6 months of hire

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position works in an office, warehouse, shop, vehicle and outdoors. There is occasional exposure to environmental factors, however physical hazards occur daily. Health and safety conditions are low. Protective equipment includes back belt, safety glasses and gloves. Standing, fine dexterity, walking, reaching, handling, vision, balancing, bending, hearing, twisting and talking are constantly required. Occasionally, lifting, carrying, sitting, pushing, pulling, and crouching are required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
