Position Summary:

The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for working with and guiding a skilled team performing periodic maintenance or repairs for a wide variety of equipment that is under the umbrella responsibility of Senior Leadership. Responsibilities include supervising a team responsible for preventive maintenance and/or repair of a fleet, repair / maintenance of equipment that services customers, and providing direction to technicians to ensure that all repairs / maintenance to equipment (trucks - diesel and alternate fuel, forklifts and other heavy-duty equipment) are performed in compliance with company safety and compliance standards, and with all federal and state regulations. The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor is additionally responsible for planning and scheduling repair work for the group to ensure that all work is done in a safe and timely manner, reducing lost productivity while maintaining a positive and motivated team environment. Work for this position is estimated to be equally split (50/50) between office work and hands-on maintenance.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

· Oversee shop personnel and set daily workflows and schedules.

· Determine equipment condition by conducting inspections, diagnostic testing, and identifying worn or damaged parts. Test repaired equipment for proper functionality before releasing for use.

· Develop a process of maintenance and repairs of rental and company equipment and manage results to ensure proper maintenance is performed on schedule. Manage data and files related to warranties, records, inspections, license requirements, service agreements, and various equipment contracts.

· Utilize asset management software spreadsheets, technology, and related logs to document work performed and ensure accuracy of repairs.

· Provide regular reports to the leadership team regarding scheduled and upcoming repairs and prioritize shop resources.

· Control costs through warranty utilization and evaluating service and replacement parts options. Collaborate with management for shop budget expectations.

· Coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs with scheduling and dispatch.

· Implement and direct focused safety training and cultivate a culture of individual and team responsibility. Enhance shop and organizational reputation through accountability, unique accomplishments, and the exploration of opportunities to add value.

· Ensure preventative maintenance for all trucks, trailers, and lifts are completed on time, to specifications, and repairs are made expediently to minimize downtime of trucks, trailers, and rental equipment. Uphold high preventative maintenance standards for self and the team.

· Return damaged out-of-service (OOS) units to service as quickly as possible while keeping quality standards; maintain equipment in outstanding visual condition and working order.

· Handle service calls for breakdowns; troubleshoot issues over the phone with customers and/or on-site operators to identify causes of unexpected breakdowns. Coordinate repairs with the team promptly.

· Ensure maintenance team completes timely check in / out reports and processes related documents to record damage, and report condition immediately upon check-in.

· Verify all pre- and post-trip inspections are completed daily and review inspection logs for each truck / trailer and CDL Driver.

· Manage and maintain shop housekeeping; clean / organize, inventory and stock supplies, parts, tools, and maintain shop areas to minimize hazards and reinforce safety concepts.

· Verify electronic logging devices (ELDs) are accurate, untampered, and conform to company standards and federal regulations.

· Perform required work or repairs on diesel or alternate fuel (such as propane) engines, hydraulic systems, and industrial equipment. Install component and parts upgrades, control / mitigate corrosion, and complete winterization procedures.

· Forecast preventative maintenance expenses and oversee shop budget. Recommend new equipment purchases, manage inventory levels, and order parts when necessary – maintain a stock of high-demand parts.

· Perform all other duties as assigned or necessary.

Minimum Qualifications (Experience, Skills, and Education):

· Three (3) to Five (5) years’ directly related experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, shop foreman, fleet mechanic, or related field.

· Prior supervisory experience with the ability to arrange work schedules and delegate tasks, and experience developing a team of mechanical support personnel needed.

· Strong mechanical aptitude; proficient with hand and power tool use, diagnostic equipment, and practice best-known methods for inspections and repair suggestions.

· Able to quickly and accurately identify issues, troubleshoot and resolve problems.

· Leadership skills necessary to guide an efficient team in a high-pressure, safety sensitive environment.

· Superior preventative and routine maintenance knowledge; strong understanding of regulations (DOT, FMCSA), manufacturer specifications, and company standards.

· Proficient in operating a Windows-based computer; familiar with various fleet management software and systems and MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

· Knowledgeable with diesel mechanics, hydraulic systems, and heavy equipment wear and tear concerns.

· Excellent time-management skills; utilizes time efficiently and encourages this from others.

· Strong customer service skills and the ability to interact professionally across all levels of staff.

· Inventory management knowledge. Can vet and source vendors and foster good relationships with third parties or outside resources.

· Good understanding of the budgeting process and financial boundaries.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor will primarily work in a mechanical shop environment that may or may not be climate-controlled. Possible exposure to low-lit areas or high levels of noise. Some work in outdoor environments with exposure to inclement weather; may access work via rough or uneven terrain. Performance of work will require General Physical Activities – actions that necessitate the frequent use of hands, arms, legs, and moving the entire body; will climb, crouch/stoop, bend or balance as needed, and will handle, move, or lift objects of varying weights or shapes. Frequent use of the senses involving speech, sight, sound, and touch.
