Job summary

Pace Suburban Bus is seeking a Superintendent of Maintenance to lead all facility, revenue vehicle, and equipment maintenance for the division. You will supervise multiple shifts, schedule repairs, and ensure work adheres to Pace policies and safety standards.

The role requires hands-on experience with diesel/gas vehicle maintenance, strong supervisory skills, and a valid Class A CDL with endorsements. Expect budget oversight, staffing planning, and coordination with vendors to keep buses

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or equivalent or technical school and/or Pace mechanic training; associate degree or bachelor’s degree is preferred.
• Must have at least four years prior experience with diesel/gas vehicle maintenance and repair, electrical, suspension and hydraulic systems, DOT regulations, and preventive maintenance; transit maintenance experience preferred.
• Must have at least two years supervisory and/or management experience; knowledge of the collective bargaining agreement preferred.
• Must have or be able to obtain a valid Class A CDL with air brake and passenger endorsements within 6 months of hire date.
• Must have or be able to obtain a DOT medical examiner’s certificate, ASE, NGV, EPA 609, 608 UST A, B, C, and forklift certifications within 6 months of hire date.
• Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to read and follow schematics and maintenance manuals.
• Must have good team-building and interpersonal skills; organized with excellent time management skills.
• Must have basic proficiency with Microsoft Office suites including Outlook, Word, Excel, and with the Oracle Maintenance System.

Responsibilities

• Monitoring the quality of work, productivity, and attendance.
• Instructing and training employees, while providing technical expertise to assist and support staff.
• Running and analyzing reports.
• Overseeing the facility to ensure it is clean, functional, safe, and secure.
• Handling grievances and other labor relations matters; ensuring vehicle availability for AM and PM pullouts as well as all special services.
• Scheduling proper staffing for preventative maintenance, other maintenance, and repairs.
• Working with vendors on warranties and repairs.
• Locating and ordering replacement parts.
• Reviewing timecards and timesheets.
• Scheduling and planning facility improvements.
• Reviewing and approving purchase orders.
• Employee recruiting, hiring, performance reviews, and discipline.
• Reviewing the maintenance department budget.
• Assisting with maintenance budget and manpower planning.
• Reviewing purchasing activities related to the buses and the facility.
• Performing other duties as assigned or required.
