Job summary

Beaufort County Community College is seeking a Fleet Maintenance/CDL Mechanic to perform general and preventative maintenance on heavy-duty diesel trucks, trailers, and related equipment for the Commercial Transportation department. The role may assist with fleet maintenance and driving classes.

The position requires knowledge of diesel mechanics, with preferred qualifications including an associate degree and 2+ years of experience with heavy-duty trucks and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair heavy-duty diesel trucks, trailers, and related equipment ( brakes, tires, clutches, AC, etc.).
• Perform inspections and preventative maintenance using diagnostic software.
• Maintain shop safety and organization.
• Respond to and provide support for on-road breakdowns.
• Maintain on-call availability as needed.

He or she may also assist with various aspects of fleet maintenance and commercial truck driving classes.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of and the ability to diagnose and repair mechanical diesel and heavy-truck mechanics and systems.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate Degree in an automotive-related field.
2+ years of experience working on heavy duty diesel trucks, trailers, and/or commercial equipment.

• - Diagnose and repair heavy duty diesel trucks, trailers, and similar equipment. (Ex: changing and adjusting brakes, changing tires, adjusting clutches, AC repairs, etc.)
• - Perform inspections and preventative maintenance, including the use of diagnostic software.
• - Maintain proper shop safety and organization.
• - Respond to and provide support for unexpected mechanic issues (such as breakdowns on the road).
• - Maintain on-call availability as needed.
