Job summary

Mountain View Whisman School District seeks an Equipment Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain district vehicles and equipment, including school buses and trucks, ensuring safety and CHP/DOT compliance.

Under supervision of the MOT Director, you will perform preventive maintenance, use diagnostic software, complete work orders, and respond to breakdowns. Requires a high school diploma, California Class B CDL with air brake endorsements, and 3+ years of journey-level experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid California Class B CDL with air brake and passenger endorsements.
• Minimum of three (3) years journey-level mechanic experience; school bus/heavy-duty mechanic experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs skilled mechanical work in inspection, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of district vehicles and equipment.
• Performs preventive maintenance and safety inspections.
• Diagnoses and repairs engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and HVAC.
• Repairs, replaces, and adjusts mechanical components including bearings, pumps, hoses, belts, wiring, valves, and related parts.
• Uses computerized diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot electrical, emission, and automotive control systems.
• Responds to road calls and provides field service during breakdowns or emergencies.
