Job summary

Sandoval County’s Public Works Department is seeking a Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance Manager in Bernalillo, NM. The role plans and directs daily maintenance operations, supervises mechanics, and drives preventative maintenance programs across the county fleet.

The ideal candidate will manage the maintenance budget, analyze repair costs, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards while coordinating with external vendors for complex repairs.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Automotive and Diesel Repair and Maintenance or related field with five years of vehicle and equipment maintenance experience including supervisory, budgeting, and management responsibilities.
• Valid New Mexico Driver’s License on hire and a New Mexico CDL within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Plans, directs, coordinates, and reviews the work of assigned staff; assigns tasks and schedules; provides feedback and evaluations.
• Oversees preventative maintenance, service and repair of vehicles, trucks and heavy equipment.
• Develops and administers the vehicle maintenance budget and oversees purchases within budget.
• Inspects vehicles/equipment to determine replacement needs based on age, repair history, and cost.
• Ensures compliance with regulations and coordinates with outside vendors as needed.
