Qualifications

  • Must be able to obtain required Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).

Job Title: Fleet Deckhand

Schedule: 8 days on, 4 days off

What you will be doing... Your IMPACT

  1. Assist with the safe loading and unloading of cargo.
  2. Inspect, correct, or notify others of any conditions which affect the safety of Team Members or cargo.
  3. Handle rigging during barge tow building, locking, and docking activities.
  4. Assist with loading or unloading materials and supplies to and from docks, barges, and boats.
  5. Examine cables, wires, and lines to ensure they are fit for use. Use tools to tighten or loosen as needed.
  6. Effectively handle tow wires and cables to secure barges in a safe and environmentally appropriate fashion.
  7. Perform basic vessel maintenance such as painting, cleaning, changing oil and filters, etc.
  8. Exhibit and demonstrate integrity, mutual care, personal responsibility, agility, customer focus, and teamwork.
  9. Be an active member of the crew and contribute to a positive work environment.

What we are looking for...

You will need to have:

  1. Physical fitness and the ability to perform strenuous tasks.
  2. Must be able to carry an 80lb wire for 200 feet without stopping or loss of balance.
  3. Must be able to obtain required Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
  4. Must be able to work in inclement weather, heat, and cold.
  5. Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  6. Basic understanding of navigation and safety procedures.
  7. Positive attitude and adaptability to a unique work schedule.
  8. Possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  9. Must be 18 years of age.
  10. Must be able to complete Health Questionnaire and pass physical abilities test.
  11. Cannot have any current pending criminal charges or be on probation.
  12. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  13. Adhere to all ACBL policies, United States Coast Guard (USCG), and environmental regulations.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  1. High School or GED preferred.
  2. Previous deckhand experience on inland rivers is a plus but not required.
  3. Six (6) months of consecutive work experience preferred.
