Job Title: Fleet Deckhand

Schedule: 8 days on, 4 days off

Join our team at American Commercial Barge Line (ACBL) as a Fleet Deckhand with the advantage of going home regularly. As a deckhand, you'll ensure the safe and efficient operation of our vessels. We offer a schedule that allows you to spend time at home while working in a thriving maritime environment.

About ACBL: American Commercial Barge Line (ACBL) is one of the largest and most diversified marine transportation companies in the U.S. Since 1915, we've provided economical, safe, and environmentally friendly transportation, starting with coal on the Kentucky River. We offer various career paths in operations and support services, whether on the river or in an office.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with safe cargo loading and unloading.
  • Inspect and address conditions affecting safety for team members or cargo.
  • Handle rigging during tow building, locking, and docking.
  • Assist with loading/unloading materials at docks, barges, and boats.
  • Examine cables, wires, and lines for safety and use tools to adjust as needed.
  • Secure barges using tow wires and cables safely and environmentally responsibly.
  • Perform basic vessel maintenance like painting, cleaning, changing oil and filters.
  • Demonstrate integrity, teamwork, responsibility, agility, customer focus, and mutual care.
  • Contribute positively as an active crew member.
Qualifications:

You will need to have:

  • Reside within 50 miles of the work location.
  • Physical fitness to perform strenuous tasks.
  • Ability to carry an 80lb wire for 200 feet.
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC card.
  • Capability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Basic navigation and safety knowledge.
  • Positive attitude and adaptability to a unique schedule.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Complete health questionnaires and pass physical tests.
  • No pending criminal charges or probation.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Adhere to all policies and regulations including USCG and environmental laws.

Even better if you have:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Previous inland river deckhand experience (preferred but not required).
  • Six months of consecutive work experience (preferred).
