Job Title: Fleet Deckhand

Schedule: 8 days on, 4 days off

Join our team at American Commercial Barge Line (ACBL) as a Fleet Deckhand with the advantage of going home regularly. As a deckhand, you'll ensure the safe and efficient operation of our vessels. We offer a schedule that allows you to spend time at home while contributing to a thriving maritime environment.

About ACBL: American Commercial Barge Line (ACBL) is one of the largest and most diversified marine transportation companies in the U.S., with a legacy dating back to 1915. We provide various career paths in operations and support services, whether on the river or in an office.

Responsibilities:
  1. Assist with the safe loading and unloading of cargo.
  2. Inspect and report conditions affecting safety of team members or cargo.
  3. Handle rigging during tow building, locking, and docking.
  4. Assist with loading/unloading materials and supplies.
  5. Examine cables, wires, and lines; perform tightening or loosening as needed.
  6. Secure barges using tow wires and cables safely and environmentally.
  7. Perform basic vessel maintenance such as painting, cleaning, and oil changes.
  8. Demonstrate integrity, teamwork, and a positive attitude.
  9. Contribute to a positive work environment as an active crew member.
Qualifications:

You will need to have:

  1. Reside within a 50-mile radius.
  2. Physical fitness to perform strenuous tasks.
  3. Ability to carry an 80lb wire for 200 feet.
  4. Ability to obtain a TWIC card.
  5. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  6. Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  7. Basic navigation and safety knowledge.
  8. Positive attitude and adaptability.
  9. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  10. At least 18 years old.
  11. Ability to complete health questionnaires and pass physical tests.
  12. No pending criminal charges or probation.
  13. Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  14. Compliance with all policies and regulations.

Preferred qualifications include:

  1. High School diploma or GED.
  2. Previous inland river deckhand experience (preferred but not required).
  3. Six months of consecutive work experience (preferred).
