Milwaukee Area Technical College seeks a Coordinator, Fleet to oversee the administration, maintenance, and operation of the college’s fleet. You will coordinate repairs, manage asset records, and ensure readiness of CMV/CDL vehicles for campus operations.
Responsibilities include training drivers, coordinating external vendor services, and maintaining policies for vehicle utilization and safekeeping. The role requires strong judgment, collaboration, and adherence to safety standards.
Under the direction of the Manager, Facilities, the Coordinator, Fleet is responsible for the administration, management, and operation of Fleet maintenance functions. The position organizes, coordinates, performs and directs the repair, maintenance and upfitting of the joint services and Public Safety vehicle fleet. The position is also responsible for vehicle allocation, vehicle readiness standards and asset management of fleet vehicles to ensure safe and reliable vehicles are available to meet operational needs.
Work is within a cross-functional, diverse, challenging, and high-volume environment that requires multitasking skills, the ability to meet deadlines and deal with difficult situations. Operates with strong professional judgment, accuracy, and decision making with minimal supervision. Daily responsibilities are completed independently using established policies and general objectives with interaction with supervisor limited to problems or unusual conditions.
Provides oversight of fleet car servicing by coordinating service and repair of vehicles with outside vendors. Serves as the primary contact for fleet services maintenance vendors. Manages and develops maintenance policies and procedures.
Collaborates with administrators to ensure appropriate staff receive safe and reliable vehicles to meet operational needs of the institution. Manages effective utilization of vehicle assets.
Manages vehicle readiness by monitoring and ensuring all vehicles are properly serviced. Conducts evaluations of fleet vehicles to verify that maintenance standards are met. Maintains vehicle and equipment records including the internal gas & maintenance card program, telematics reporting and connectivity, and Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) and Commercial Driver License (CDL) vehicles for compliance requirements.
Provides training and presentations related to driver safety to facilitate driver readiness and compliance with policy. Conducts and/or attends and contributes to driver safety meetings with employees. Reviews and assesses the approved drivers list to facilitate alignment between policy and operational needs.
Reviews capital requisitions in alignment with procurement guidelines and objectives. Administers fleet licensing and titling procedures. Maintains fleet asset inventory and develops asset management policies and procedures.
Establishes, maintains, and enhances positive work relationships with staff, faculty, and administrators.
Practices honesty by demonstrating a consistent and uncompromising adherence to strong moral and ethical principles, values, truthfulness and accuracy in all actions. Addresses all student and employee behavior in a confidential and respectful manner.
Maintains current knowledge of best practices and standards in higher education with an emphasis on community Colleges. Actively organizes and/or participates in applicable workgroups, trainings, workshops, seminars, committees and professional associations or conferences to promote continuous learning.
Performs other related duties within the scope of the position as required for the efficient operation of the division and to support institutional objectives. Compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation standards/requirement, as well as all MATC policies and procedures.
Associate’s degree or technical diploma in Automotive Technology, Business, Logistics, or a related field, with three (3) years of experience in fleet operations, vehicle maintenance, automotive service, or a related area; OR
Five (5) years of directly related experience in fleet operations, vehicle maintenance or repair, automotive service, or vehicle/equipment asset management, which demonstrates the knowledge and abilities required for the position; OR
An equivalent combination of education and directly related experience, where each year of qualifying experience beyond the minimum may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
A valid driver’s license
This position is 40 hours per work week. Hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Position requires regular travel to all campus sites. Occasional weekend availability may be required. * Work hours and location are subject to change based on department
Salary pay rates are listed up to the midpoint of the range and placement is determined based on years of experience, internal salary equity, and a review of the applicant's employment and educational background as listed on the job application.
