Job summary

Charleston County Government seeks an Automotive Shop Technician to maintain and repair the County’s light-duty vehicles, including cars, trucks, and medium-duty diesels. The role requires diagnostic work and preventive maintenance to support county fleets and EMS services.

Hiring hourly ranges from $16.68 to $25.40 depending on level and experience. A high school diploma or GED is required; ASE certification within six months and EPA 609 certification are expected. A tool allowance is provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• ASE certification within six months of hire.
• EPA 609 certification is required or planned.
• Valid South Carolina driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs repair and maintenance on County vehicles.
• Diagnoses electrical/electronic components and systems.
• Maintains and repairs HVAC, brakes, suspension, and tires.
• Documents identified problems and repairs performed.
• Discusses vehicle issues with operators and prioritizes work.
• Makes on-call repairs for EMS ambulances as needed.
• Maintains maintenance records and reports progress to supervisor.
• Attends trainings to stay current with industry practices.
