Job summary

National Grid in Brooklyn, NY is seeking an Automotive and Equipment Mechanic to join the Fleet Services team. This second shift role performs diagnostic, repair and preventive maintenance on a diverse company fleet, from cars to heavy equipment, and conducts NYS inspections.

Must handle parts, tool use, and safety protocols. Applicants should have at least five years’ maintenance experience; ASE is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus automotive vocational training or equivalent.
• Minimum of five years experience as a maintenance technician; ASE certification is a plus.
• Must diagnose and correct diesel, fuel injection, electronic ignition, power hydraulics, and related systems.
• Must obtain a commercial driver's license and possible endorsements.
• Ability to obtain tank, hazmat and tow truck endorsements within 180 days.
• Capable of keeping fleet maintenance records, electronic or written.
• Physically capable of working around vehicles and safely operating tools.
• Willing to work overtime, irregular hours, shifts, and emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic, repair, and preventative maintenance on fleet vehicles including cars, trucks, and equipment.
• Repair a variety of vehicles and equipment such as aerial trucks and earth-moving machinery.
• Conduct New York State motor vehicle inspections including emissions and safety.
• Operate garage tools, diagnostic equipment, lifts and hoists safely.
• Identify and obtain necessary replacement parts for repairs.
• Adhere to warranty policies and procedures.
• Independently analyze and resolve fleet maintenance issues.
• Complete overtime and participate in the Emergency Restoration Program as required.
