Position Overview

The Flagger II is responsible for directing traffic around construction sites, road maintenance areas, and other work zones. This includes setting up and removing traffic control signs, cones, and barricades to ensure safety for workers and the public. The role involves using hand signals, signs, and traffic control devices to communicate with motorists and guide them safely through or around work zones. The position requires attention to detail, outdoor work in various weather conditions, and the ability to stand for extended periods.

Essential Functions

• Set up signs, cones, and traffic control devices around work areas to divert traffic.
• Manage traffic flow using stop/slow paddles effectively.
• Communicate clearly with team members via two-way radios.
• Stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms for up to 10 hours daily.
• Lift, carry, push, pull, and move items over 50 pounds.
• Transport traffic control equipment using company vehicles.
• Perform vehicle inspections and maintenance checks.
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions, exposed to moving equipment, fumes, and airborne particles.
• Maintain a moderate to loud noise environment.
• Follow all company policies and procedures.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

• Valid Driver’s License.
• Background check, including motor vehicle records.
• Pass a drug test and meet DOT requirements.
• Wear safety gear (boots with safety toe, hard hat, glasses, vest).
• Operate two-way radios.
• Willingness to work in various weather and traffic conditions.
• Effective communication with contractors and teams.
• Strong work ethic, reliable transportation, and excellent attendance.
• Completion of ATSSA Flagger training and Defensive Driver training.
• Willingness to travel statewide, with overnight stays, and work nights/weekends as needed.
• Availability for a rotating on-call schedule.
