Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The Fitter/Welder III is responsible for welding and fitting jobs, ensuring weldments are welded using the correct procedures and built to print dimensions in a timely manner. Based in Fort Worth, Texas, this position reports to the Manufacturing Lead/Crew Chief. The role involves working alongside other assembly team members to complete full trailer or skidded assemblies.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Perform complex welding tasks using wire feed gun (flux core), stick welding (7018), and possibly TIG welding processes.
  2. Layout, fit up, and fabricate complex and difficult structural forms.
  3. Interpret complex engineering drawings accurately.
  4. Fabricate complex jigs and fixtures to meet or exceed quality standards.
  5. Follow prescribed weld procedures precisely.
  6. Work efficiently with minimal supervision.
  7. Operate oxygen/acetylene cutting torches safely and accurately.
  8. Follow work router information accurately.
  9. Report technical problems to the Manufacturing Lead/Crew Chief or Supervisor and assist in resolving them.
  10. Adhere to safe work practices.
  11. Improve efficiency and meet delivery goals.
  12. Comply with NOV Company and HSE policies and procedures.
  13. Maintain a clean and organized work area and practice safe work habits.
  14. Perform other work-related tasks as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education and experience.
  2. At least 5 years of welding experience in a shop or field environment.
  3. Experience operating welding equipment used in fabrication.
  4. Experience with cutting and plasma torches.
  5. Experience in layout, fit-up, and inspection of weldments.
  6. Mentoring experience in layout, fit-up, welding, and inspection is a plus.
  7. Ability to pass 6G weld bend tests in FCAW, SMAW, GMAW, and TIG processes.
  8. Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. Ability to pass drug screening and background checks.
  2. Familiarity with SMAW and GMAW welding processes and ability to interpret fabrication blueprints.
  3. Organizational skills for documentation and work areas, adherence to policies and safety measures.
  4. Ability to understand written instructions and memos.
  5. Apply common sense to carry out instructions.
  6. Problem-solving skills involving standardized situations.
  7. Ability to work well independently and in teams.
  8. Willingness to cross-train and learn all job duties.
  9. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  10. Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements for up to 12 hours daily in a factory environment with temperature fluctuations.
