Job summary

The Tepa Companies are seeking a skilled Fitter/Welder for traveling assignments across project sites in support of our Industrial Services Division. You will weld piping and plates, perform fit-up, prep, repair, and post-weld cleanup, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 8+ years welding experience in pipe and tank projects.
  • Must pass 6G SMAW, GTAW, FCAW tests.
  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret welding procedures.
  • Willingness to travel and operate in field environments.

Responsibilities

  • Follow welding procedures and produce quality welds.
  • Perform fit-up, preparation, and post-weld cleanup.
  • Inspect welds and repair as needed to pass radiographic tests.
  • Communicate with Field Foreman about issues on site.
  • Determine tools and materials based on project specifications.
  • Assemble, install, and repair pipe components per specs.
  • Maintain supplies, equipment, and tools.
  • Observe safety regulations on all work sites.

In addition to welding, the successful candidate must be able to perform tasks related to welding such as fit‐up, preparation, repair, inspection, and post weld preparation. As required, the Welder will also be tasked to assist with general site work such as loading and unloading equipment and materials, site clean‐up and preparation, mobilization, and demobilization to and from the jobsite, scaffolding erection, general tank construction tasks and other duties as assigned.Job functions:Follow welding procedure specifications when weldingPerform quality welds able to pass radiographic examinationPerform quality welds using various welding process, such as TIG, GMAW, SMAW, FCAW on carbon and stainless steel, and aluminumProduce quality welds with efficiencyPerform fit‐up and preparation of weldsPerform post weld cleanup, inspection, and repairCommunicate regularly with the Field Foreman regarding issues and concerns on the job siteDetermine the required tools, materials and welding methods based on the project specificationsAssemble, install, and repair pipe components and systems according to specificationsInspect all materials, equipment, and tools required to perform the workMaintain supplies, equipment, and toolsProperly prepare materials by clamping, cutting, or applying chemical solutions to pipingExamine completed welds to ensure they are free of defects, smooth, and functionalAssist pipefitter in developing weld mapsObserve all safety regulationsWHAT WE’RE LOOKING FORHigh School diploma or GEDDocumentation of at least 8 years of relevant welding experienceMust have experience as a pipe welderMust have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the aboveground tank construction/repair industryMust be able to pass a 6G weld test utilizing SMAW, GTAW, and FCAW processesMust be able to pass 2, 3, and 4G plate welding testsMust be able to perform both stick and tig welds on both carbon and stainless steel pipeMust be able to utilize large weld rods (3/16" minimum) in all positions and in an effective and efficient mannerMust be able to maintain a 90 – 100% pass rate on all welds requiring radiographic examinationMust be able to fit all types of standard appurtenancesMust be able to utilize automatic cutting torch for such tasks as cutting the slot in the tank shell to receive a secondary bottomMust possess advanced knowledge of automatic welding equipment to include the ability to operate and repair this type of equipmentMust be able to effectively utilize an arc gouge and hand torchMust be able to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and written instructionsMust have a working knowledge of AWS, API, ANSI, and ASME codes and standardsMust be able to troubleshoot and have a strong attention to detailPhysical dexterityMust be able to follow verbal directionsMust be able to read and write in EnglishMust be willing to travelMust be able to pass a drug screen and background check in compliance with federal regulationMust be able to pass a background check required to access US military installationsMust have a valid driver’s licenseEqual Opportunity Employer/Veterans/DisabledSalary Range:$65,369.21 - $79,959.42
