Job summary

The Tepa Companies seek a Fitter/Welder for welding tasks on piping and plate in petroleum operations facilities. You will perform fit-up, preparation, repair and post-weld cleanup, and assist with site activities such as mobilization and demobilization.

You must have 8+ years welding experience, pipe welding background, and the ability to pass 6G SMAW/GTAW/FCAW tests, with travel to multiple project sites. Valid license and drug/background checks required.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 8+ years welding experience.
  • Pipe welding experience required.
  • 5+ years in aboveground tank construction/repair.
  • Pass 6G SMAW, GTAW and FCAW tests.
  • Pass 2G, 3G and 4G plate weld tests.
  • Stick and TIG on carbon and stainless steel.
  • Use 3/16 inch weld rods.
  • Maintain 90–100% radiographic pass rate.
  • Read blueprints and codes (AWS, API, ANSI, ASME).
  • Willing to travel; pass drug and background checks; valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Follow welding procedure specifications.
  • Produce quality welds that pass radiographic tests.
  • Weld using TIG, GMAW, SMAW, FCAW on various materials.
  • Perform fit-up, prep, cleanup, inspection and repair.
  • Communicate with Field Foreman about site issues.
  • Determine tools, materials and methods per project.
  • Assemble, install and repair pipe components per specs.
  • Inspect and maintain materials, equipment and tools.
  • Prepare materials by clamping, cutting, or chemical treatment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and instructions; ensure safety.

LOCATION: This is a traveling position requiring frequent travel to different project sites in support of Tepa's Industrial Services Division.

About The Job

The Tepa Companies are seeking a Fitter/Welder to perform welding tasks on piping and plate within petroleum operations facilities. In addition to welding, the successful candidate must be able to perform tasks related to welding such as fit‑up, preparation, repair, inspection, and post weld preparation. As required, the Welder will also be tasked to assist with general site work such as loading and unloading equipment and materials, site clean‑up and preparation, mobilization, and demobilization to and from the jobsite, scaffolding erection, general tank construction tasks and other duties as assigned.

Job Functions
  • Follow welding procedure specifications when welding
  • Perform quality welds able to pass radiographic examination
  • Perform quality welds using various welding process, such as TIG, GMAW, SMAW, FCAW on carbon and stainless steel, and aluminum
  • Produce quality welds with efficiency
  • Perform fit‑up and preparation of welds
  • Perform post weld cleanup, inspection, and repair
  • Communicate regularly with the Field Foreman regarding issues and concerns on the job site
  • Determine the required tools, materials and welding methods based on the project specifications
  • Assemble, install, and repair pipe components and systems according to specifications
  • Inspect all materials, equipment, and tools required to perform the work
  • Maintain supplies, equipment, and tools
  • Properly prepare materials by clamping, cutting, or applying chemical solutions to piping
  • Examine completed welds to ensure they are free of defects, smooth, and functional
  • Assist pipefitter in developing weld maps
  • Observe all safety regulations
What We’re Looking For
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Documentation of at least 8 years of relevant welding experience
  • Must have experience as a pipe welder
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the aboveground tank construction/repair industry
  • Must be able to pass a 6G weld test utilizing SMAW, GTAW, and FCAW processes
  • Must be able to pass 2, 3, and 4G plate welding tests
  • Must be able to perform both stick and tig welds on both carbon and stainless steel pipe
  • Must be able to utilize large weld rods (3/16\" minimum) in all positions and in an effective and efficient manner
  • Must be able to maintain a 90 – 100% pass rate on all welds requiring radiographic examination
  • Must be able to fit all types of standard appurtenances
  • Must be able to utilize automatic cutting torch for such tasks as cutting the slot in the tank shell to receive a secondary bottom
  • Must possess advanced knowledge of automatic welding equipment to include the ability to operate and repair this type of equipment
  • Must be able to effectively utilize an arc gouge and hand torch
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and written instructions
  • Must have a working knowledge of AWS, API, ANSI, and ASME codes and standards
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and have a strong attention to detail
  • Physical dexterity

  • Must be able to read and write in English
  • Must be willing to travel
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check in compliance with federal regulation
  • Must be able to pass a background check required to access US military installations
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
