Qualifications

Position Overview

The Fitter position is an individual contributor responsible for fitting metal and/or aluminum components together to fabricate or repair products according to layouts, blueprints, or work orders.

Essential Functions
  • Fit and layout components of large steel interstate sign structures.
  • Work with steel pipe and other steel shapes and measure on radiused surfaces.
  • Follow fit and layout instructions described in detailed drawings.
  • Perform tack welding of material into place using GMAW welding equipment.
  • Read, complete, and maintain labor reporting system, standard shop forms, and blueprints.
  • Follow written procedures and specifications.
  • Use motorized grinders, buffers, stone grinders, and drills to clean and prep material for fitting and tacking.
  • Operate overhead cranes to move and hold material in place.
  • Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
  • Maintain a safe and productive work environment, ensuring quality and timely production.
Important Details about the Role

The employee is responsible for own work and must collaborate with other employees to complete jobs. Setup, operate, and perform general maintenance of equipment without difficulty. This position reports to the Production Supervisor and has a direct impact on safety, quality, productivity, total manufacturing expenses, and customer satisfaction.

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow work instructions completely and accurately.
  • High awareness for safety at all times.
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fraction conversion).
  • Reading and comprehension of routings and blueprints.
  • Use of tape measure and computer for entering production data, time keeping, and interfacing with machines.
  • Ability to work in an indoor shop environment with temperature ranges from 100°F in the summer to about 50°F in the winter.
  • Tolerance for exposure to wind, cold, heat, dust, fumes, noise, vibration, water, or oil.
  • Use of safety glasses, hearing protection, and metatarsal safety shoes at all times.
  • Ability to remain on feet for entire work shift within the shop environment.
Working Conditions & Physical Efforts

All work is performed in an indoor shop environment. Conditions may include temperature extremes, exposure to electrical hazards, grease, loud noises, and outside elements. The employee must use the required personal protective equipment (PPE) for all work in the production facility.
