Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years old and enrolled in high school or possess a HS diploma/GED.
  • Experience with fitness or weight room equipment through employment, athletics, training, or similar.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification required or able to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and professional certifications (ACE, AFAA, ACSM, Cooper Institute) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patrons, answer questions, and guide on facility rules.
  • Ensure proper equipment use and promote safe exercise practices.
  • Assist with league setup, gym oversight, and event support.
  • Wipe down machines, report maintenance needs, and monitor floor readiness.
  • Keep the area tidy, organize equipment, and reinforce facility policies.
  • Report incidents, track attendance, and support operations.
  • Remain reachable via cell for job-related issues or emergencies using City apps.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

The Fitness Specialist supports daily operations of the fitness floor by assisting patrons, monitoring equipment usage, maintaining a welcoming environment, and supporting athletic and recreation programming. The position ensures participant safety and excellent customer service.

Essential Job Functions and Other Important Duties:
  • Greets patrons, answers questions, and provides guidance on facility rules.
  • Ensures proper equipment use and supports safe exercise practices.
  • Assists with league setup, gym oversight, and event support.
  • Wipes down machines, reports maintenance needs, and monitors floor readiness.
  • Ensures tidiness, organizes equipment, and reinforces facility policies.
  • Reports incidents, tracks attendance, and supports facility operations.
  • Remains accessible via cell phone to address job-related issues or emergencies using City applications.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
Job Qualifications

Formal Education: Must be at least 16 years of age and currently enrolled in high school or have completed high school/GED.

Relatable Work Experience: Experience with fitness or weight room equipment through employment, athletics, training, or other relevant experience.

Training, Licenses, and Certifications: CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, Sports Management, Recreation, Exercise Science, or related field. Certified Personal Trainer or Group Fitness Instructor. Current group exercise certification (ACE, AFAA, ACSM, Cooper Institute, or equivalent).

Disclaimer: Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full‑time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full‑time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

Knowledge of proper fitness floor etiquette.
Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Ability to follow written or verbal instructions.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Frequent standing, demonstrating movements, walking, and reaching.
Ability to demonstrate exercise movements safely and effectively.
Ability to lift 25-50 lbs.
Exposure to weight‑lifting equipment.
Occasional exposure to outdoor conditions during fitness events.
Occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals.
Potential physical harm related to athletic activity.
