Job summary

City and County of Broomfield seeks a Water Aerobics Fitness Instructor to lead engaging classes at Paul Derda Recreation Center, Broomfield Community Center, or Bay Aquatic Park this summer.

Applicants should hold ACE/AFAA/AEA national certifications and First Aid/CPR within 30 days of hire; experience is preferred, and substitution for other instructors is possible. Pay ranges from $22.20 to $30.04 per hour.

Responsibilities

Now Hiring Water Aerobics Fitness Instructor

We are seeking Fitness Instructors to lead engaging and inclusive Water Aerobics classes for participants of varying fitness levels, skills, and abilities. Instructors may teach at the Paul Derda Recreation Center, Broomfield Community Center, or Bay Aquatic Park during the summer, based on program needs. We are also currently seeking applicants who are available to substitute for other instructors.

• Schedules vary, with opportunities Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m., and Saturday–Sunday, 8:00 a.m.–10:00 a.m.

• Pay: $22.20–$30.04/hour.

• Develops and leads participants in cardiovascular and/or muscle conditioning exercises appropriate for the level of the class that is safe and in line with the course description.

• Instructs participants in proper exercise heart rates.

• Monitors participants and their ability to ensure proper use of equipment and technique.

• Provides feedback to class participants.

• Maintains current and accurate attendance records.

• Interact with class participants and demonstrate exercises or training activities that may include the following actions based on the format that is being taught: aerobic dance exercises, jogging, dancing, stepping, marching, hopping, skipping, jumping, bending, stretching, swimming, weight lifting, and full body movement.

Education

• Must possess and maintain a current national fitness/aquatic certification such as ACE (American Council on Exercise), AFAA (Aerobic Fitness Association of America), or AEA (Aquatic Exercise Association).

• Must possess a First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days of hire, and maintained for continued employment.

Experience

• Less than 1 year experience required in teaching group fitness classes.

• The Aqua Aerobics positions prefer previous instructor experience.

Years of related experience may be substituted for required education, however education cannot be substituted for the necessary work experience. Candidates must meet the minimum required years of work experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: in-person or virtual interviews, reference checks, background checks including local police check and sex-offender registry.

• Must be at least 18 years of age.

• Work is generally scheduled in advance, Monday through Sunday, and may include early morning, afternoon, and evening hours.

• Work is primarily performed in indoor recreation and fitness environments; aquatic instructors may work in pool environments.

• Physical demands are described as medium (exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently, and up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects).

• Noise level is generally moderate and may vary depending on the class and facility environment.

• Work requires standing and/or walking for significant periods while instructing classes.

• Work requires frequent demonstration of physical activities appropriate to the assigned class format, which may include aerobic exercise, dancing, stepping, bending, stretching, swimming, weight training, and other full-body movements.

• Work may require reaching, handling fitness equipment, and demonstrating the proper use of equipment and exercise techniques.

• Required to communicate with and observe participants throughout instruction to provide direction, feedback, and promote safe participation.
