Job summary

Brown University Athletics and Recreation seeks a Fitness and Wellness Coordinator in Providence, RI to oversee the Nelson Fitness Center’s daily operations and staff. You will support programming for students, faculty, staff, and recreation members and assist with events on campus.

Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in a related field and 1–2 years of experience in collegiate recreation; NSCA/NASM/ACE/ACSM certifications are preferred.

Job Description:Brown University Athletics and Recreation is currently seeking candidates for the Fitness and Wellness Coordinator position. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 38 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-D1).This position will be responsible for the daily administration, staffing, and programming of the Nelson Fitness Center, and is responsible for administration of the Fitness Assistant and Fitness Supervisor positions. This position will support the Fitness and Wellness Manager in special events, and programming in the Nelson Fitness Center and on the Brown University Campus. This position will manage equipment repairs and preventative maintenance for equipment. This position will assist the Fitness and Wellness Manager with development, implementation, promotion, safe operation, and evaluation of recreation/fitness services for students, faculty, staff, and recreation members, as well as special events hosted at the Nelson Fitness Center.Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Sports Management, Kinesiology, Recreation, Administration, or a related field.1-2 years of related experience with progressive responsibility in fitness and collegiate recreation.Knowledge of business operations, financial operations, scheduling and facility operations, and risk management preferred.Current certification from NSCA, NASM, ACE, or ACSM preferred.Demonstrated expertise in current fitness and wellness programming trends including fitness testing, leading group fitness and/or personal training.Experience with marketing and social media promotional campaign management. Website content management experience, helpful.Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and knowledge or experience with the complexities of diversity strategies in University Athletics and Recreation.Effective communication and collaboration skills.Ability to think programmatically, expansively and creatively to help develop clear goals and outcomes for programsAll division employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations; the duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all NCAA, Ivy League rules and regulations; and any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the division are to be reported to the compliance office and appropriate parties.
