Job summary

Washington State University is seeking a Fiscal Specialist 2 to provide complex fiscal and administrative support for the School of Molecular Biosciences. You will handle purchasing, domestic and international travel, card reconciliations, and budget tracking, working with faculty, staff, students, and visitors.

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience at Fiscal Specialist 1 and 15 qu. hours/10 sem. hours of accounting; or equivalent.
  • Strong numerical, data entry and reconciliation skills.
  • Proficient with spreadsheets, databases, and office software; able to learn Workday.

Responsibilities

  • Perform purchasing and travel coordination for SMB staff and faculty.
  • Reconcile purchasing card/CTA transactions and budget postings.
  • Develop procedures and provide fiscal support across departments.
  • Collaborate with multiple SMB teams and administrative staff.

Position Details
The Opportunity

The Fiscal Specialist 2 performs a variety of complex fiscal and administrative support functions related to purchasing and travel in the School of Molecular Biosciences (SMB), including independently developing, analyzing, planning, and providing services to faculty, staff, students, and visitors. Duties include purchasing; domestic and international travel; purchasing card/CTA card reconciliation; establishing and developing procedures, fiscal tracking and posting; budget reconciliation; and other operational support functions. This position requires effective collaboration with multiple departments and all SMB personnel, including students, faculty, lab coordinators, and administrative staff.

Additional Information

This is a full-time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.

Monthly Salary

$3,917.00 to $5,240.00 | Range 43 (Steps A-M) | Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications
  • Two years of experience at a level equivalent to Fiscal Specialist 1 AND 15 quarter hours OR 10 semester hours of college level accounting; OR equivalent education/experience.
  • Experience working efficiently and accurately with numbers.
  • Experience working with computers and computer software, especially spreadsheets and databases.
  • Demonstrated organization skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of WSU policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and Workday.
  • Professional working experience in a higher education environment.
