Job summary

Gordon State College is seeking a Title III Peer Mentor to support first-year students through the FIRE 1000 course. The role involves attending classes, building rapport, and guiding students in navigating campus resources and support services.

The mentor will coach students in study skills, time management, and co-curricular involvement, while modeling positive behavior and advocating for student needs.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of higher education retention best practices.
• Familiarity with campus technology tools (Banner, D2L, Navigate, MS Office).
• Strong interpersonal communication skills.
• Peer leadership abilities.
• Excellent written and oral communication.
• Strong time management and organizational skills.
• Ability to collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

• Attends assigned FIRE class as directed.
• Builds rapport with assigned students.
• Mentors and coaches students regarding the navigation of GSC environment and availability of support resources.
• Mentors and coaches students in study skills, time management, co-curricular involvement, and other aspects of student transition and success.
• Serves as a role model of positive behavior, representing GSC with pride and respect.
• Serves as an advocate for the interests, needs, and rights of first-year students.
