Great Basin College in Nevada seeks a GEAR UP First Year College Advisor (FYCA) based at the Pahrump Center. You will work directly with high school students, guiding them through graduation and their first year of college or postsecondary training.

The role focuses on college awareness, admissions and financial aid navigation, and intrusive advising to support persistence. It is grant-funded through May 31, 2027, with possible renewal.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience working with youth.
• Experience in a high school counseling office, college access program, or higher education student affairs.
• Advanced proficiency navigating FAFSA/WASFA and college admissions processes.
• Ability to travel to campuses and work select evenings/weekends.

Responsabilités

• Provide individualized academic advising to help students complete college-prep coursework and develop college lists.
• Guide students through applications, admissions requirements, and entrance exam prep (ACT/SAT).
• Coordinate FAFSA/WASFA workshops, scholarship searches, and aid award letter reviews.
• Organize college campus visits, financial literacy, and summer bridge activities for postsecondary familiarity.
• Maintain high-touch outreach during summer melt and monitor student persistence and transition.
