Job summary

C.H. Robinson in Long Beach, CA, seeks a 1st Shift Shipping Area Manager to lead a warehouse team responsible for outbound shipping, quality control, production, maintenance, and sanitation. Core hours are 6:30am–3:30pm, Monday–Friday, with flexibility based on volumes.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a warehouse, distribution center, and/or manufacturing operations environment
• Knowledge of efficient and safe warehousing practices
• Basic computer skills
• Manual dexterity for operating machinery
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50lbs
• Ability to work all day in a temperature-controlled environment (as low as 35 degrees)

Responsibilities

• Educate Distribution Center staff on Distribution Center Model vision, guiding principles, and strategy
• Develop and maintain knowledge of fresh supply inventory, production processes, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing productivity
• Maintain appropriate metrics evaluating operational and economic performance in receiving, shipping, inventory, production, and all service level offerings
• Ensure all customer service metrics are consistently met or exceeded
• Ensure receiving, shipping, inventory and production crews deliver product within specified quality, condition, and food safety protocols
• Operate in an efficient/cost-conscious manner to achieve budgeted objectives
• Review equipment preventative maintenance schedules and work orders
• Ensure safety and sanitation schedules to meet HAACP, OSHA and Primus standards
• Reinforce safety culture and code of conduct
• Communicate clearly with all audiences and keep others informed
• Support SOPs and documentation for facility services
• Ensure safe use and maintenance of facility equipment
• Monitor supplies, packaging, and raw materials daily
• Identify areas for improvement and make data-driven recommendations
• Root cause problem solving to drive process improvement
• Maintain staffing and provide performance feedback and coaching
• Lead recruitment, selection, and development of diverse talent
• Support merit and equity programs and align compensation with performance
• Develop employees to meet career and organizational goals
• Encourage feedback and foster an inclusive, collaborative culture
• Explain job expectations and manage performance to drive results
