Job summary

UC Health is seeking a Lab Support Technician for the Outreach Operations Department. This first-shift role supports the lab service centers, including patient registration, specimen collection, pre-analytic processing, and coordination of billing and documentation.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, comfort with multiple information systems (Centricity, LastWord, Horizon, Epic), and phlebotomy training or experience.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Ability to read and comprehend written information.
• Ability to perform a variety of duties in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of multiple information systems (Centricity, LastWord, Horizon, Epic).
• Formal phlebotomy training or equivalent preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience and certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receives orders and reviews patient demographics from LastWord, Centricity, or patient.
• Completes registration and order entry into Horizon per protocols.
• Performs Medicare ABN checks and educates patient on options.
• Answers incoming calls promptly and courteously.
• Uses correct pronunciation of medical terms in all communications.
• Completes required department logs and documentation.
• Reviews lab requisitions for ABN, ICD9 and demographics.
• Resolves problems in the appropriate manner.
• Handles phone requests with minimal transfers.
• Performs filing and supports orientation of new staff.
• Prepares service center for daily activity and end-of-day closing.
• Supports billing by ensuring required information is complete.
• Coordinates workflow for specimens, documents, and billing.
