Job summary

SA-TECH, a DoD contractor, seeks two First Mates for its RSCs at Naval Base Point Loma in San Diego. You will ensure crew safety and safe navigation when the Captain is absent, oversee deck operations, and coordinate maintenance with Engineering.

Overtime and sea periods are common; candidates must live in the Port Loma area and meet security requirements. Requires high school diploma, 500GT experience, USCG licenses, and ability to obtain DoD SECRET clearance.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Three (3) years of Mate experience on a 500GT vessel managing personnel and schedules is required.
• Ten (10) years maritime experience as a Captain of a 500GT vessel supervising personnel and schedules is preferred.
• Demonstrable knowledge of preventive/corrective maintenance plans.
• USCG 500GT Mate Near Coastal Water license and medical certificate are mandatory.
• USCG 500GT Master Near Coastal Waters license with medical certificate is preferred.
• Current Driver’s License; able to be insured for driving work/government/rental vehicles.
• U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain DoD Secret Clearance and maintain SECRET clearance.
• Pass background screening including SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.

Responsibilities

• Reports directly to the vessel Captain.
• Responsible for crew safety and navigation in the Captain's absence.
• Oversees deck department daily operations.
• Coordinates large maintenance activities with Engineering.
• Participates in deck operations as needed.
• Responsible for all shipboard safety equipment.
