Heron Power Inc. is hiring a Head of People Operations to build HR foundations as we scale from R&D to manufacturing. You will own HR operations, payroll, benefits, compliance, employee relations, and manager support for an hourly workforce, reporting to the VP of Finance & Operations.

This hands-on role shapes Heron Power’s culture and ensures scalable processes before manufacturing ramp, with a focus on non-exempt staff, policy development, and system implementations.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7+ years in progressive HR/people operations roles at high-growth companies.
• Hands-on payroll experience including non-exempt/hourly staff.
• Experience owning HRIS and payroll systems, with integrations to third-party tools.
• Strong discretion, judgment and communication across all levels.
• Solid knowledge of federal and California employment laws.

Responsabilités

• Own employee lifecycle including onboarding, background checks, immigration with outside counsel, I-9 and orientation.
• Oversee offboarding, final pay, exit interviews, deprovisioning and documentation.
• Coordinate performance reviews, promotions and salary adjustments with Finance/leadership.
• Support contractor onboarding, renewals, and offboarding with Legal/Finance.
• Lead payroll, benefits evaluation, renewals, open enrollment, and day-to-day admin.
• Manage HR systems, timekeeping, attendance, scheduling, and wage-hour processes ahead of manufacturing ramp.
• Serve as first point of contact for employee relations and coaching; maintain handbook and compliance calendar.
• Partner with Compliance/EHS on workers’ compensation, OSHA processes, safety training and injury reporting.
