Job summary

The Merit School in Woodbridge, VA is seeking a dedicated First Grade Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. You will design engaging hands-on lessons, support learning in a nurturing environment, and communicate effectively with families and staff.

Responsibilities include creating lesson plans, managing classroom activities, and maintaining a organized, safe classroom. A minimum of an Associate degree in ECE or Elementary Education is required, with a Bachelor's preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in ECE/Elementary Education or related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Minimum 1 year field-related experience with young children in a school setting or childcare facility
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Committed to high quality education at every level
• Meet individual needs of children and interact with all children to support learning and play
• Implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans and activities
• Participate in required teacher trainings
• Establish positive communication with children, families and staff
• Reliable attendance and accountability
• Flexibility to work hours based on the needs of the school and program
• Successful background check and VA licensing standards required

Our First Grade Teachers are responsible for the care and education of a group of children. Our Teachers will create and implement lesson plans and manage the students as they learn. Teachers are responsible for keeping their classroom organized and clean, providing excellent communication in person and in writing, and creating a healthy and safe environment for all students and staff. All our teachers and staff are held to high standards regarding communication, curriculum, professionalism, and safety.
