Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO Bremerton is seeking a skilled Welder to perform welding tasks across ship compartments in a safety-first environment. The role requires extensive NAVSEA-related experience, strong ability to read weld symbols and drawings, and the ability to pass multiple welding process tests.

You will work with a team to ensure safe hot-work practices, maintain WAF tickets, and comply with safety procedures while meeting production goals.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5 years related experience, with at least two years NAVSEA-related.
• Possesses standard tools for a welder.
• Able to work different shifts.
• Must have knowledge of weld symbols and general DWGs.
• Must pass FCAW, 2G, 3G & 4G 71T1 .045 wire.
• Must pass SMAW, 6G Pipe, 11018 "stick".
• Must pass SMAW, 6G Pipe, 309 "stick".
• Must pass GMAW, 2G, 3G & 4G aluminum 5000 & 6000 series.
• Must pass GTAW, 2G, 3G & 4G aluminum 5000 & 6000 series.
• Must pass GTAW, 4F & 5F RN67(CUNI).
• Must pass GTAW, 4F & 5F 316 (Stainless Steel).
• Must pass GTAW, 4F & 5F 70S2 (Carbon Steel).
• Must pass GTAW, 6G RN625 on Carbon Steel pipe (open root).
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
• Must be able to safely hook up and operate a torch.
• Must have knowledge of WAFs
• Must have ability to follow instructions and work well with others.
• Ability to gain access to local bases.

Responsibilities

• Ensures tank/compartment has an updated safe for hot work ticket and requirements met.
• Ensures conditions of tank/compartment have not changed since ticket written.
• Ensures a Work Authorization Form (WAF) is on site for the specific job.
• Complies with safety issues related to the job (staging, eye/face protection, PPE).
• Trained/qualified for assigned work (e.g., welding, brazing, electrical/mechanical repairs).
• Follows General Dynamics-NASSCO Safety Procedures for all torch work.
• Maintains safety and productivity with quality control.
• Ensures 30-minute cool down in hot work areas.
• Assigns and maintains fire watches.
• Leaves job site safe and clean on departure.
• Provides personnel with work package and required drawings/ manuals.
