Barnes Jewish West County Hospital is a new state-of-the-art facility that opened for patient care in November 2019. We are looking for Registered Nurses who can become part of a learning and growing team.

Position Highlights

The RFNA is a preoperative registered nurse with advanced training in surgical first assisting. This role involves assisting surgeons during procedures, providing preoperative and postoperative care, and ensuring optimal patient outcomes. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, clinical expertise, and the ability to function effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.

Barnes Jewish West County Hospital offers highly specialized surgical and medical services in an intimate environment and is known for outstanding patient care. With 64 private patient rooms, 14 operating rooms, and four intensive care unit rooms, the facility was designed to provide a comforting environment that is innovative, efficient, and centered on the patient experience. Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Performs an expanded perioperative role as a first assistant to surgeons during surgical procedures in the operating room. RNFA works alongside the surgeon to provide direct patient care. Collaborates with the patient’s designated support person and other healthcare providers when planning care.

Responsibilities

1. Delivers intraoperative patient care as the first assistant to the surgeon(s) as a collaborative team member. Performs preoperative focused nursing assessments related to the planned procedure. Analyzes assessment data to determine nursing diagnoses and communicates desired patient outcomes throughout the perioperative continuum.
2. Functions as a member of the surgical team, contributing to the overall efficiency of the perioperative department, considering safety, effectiveness, efficiency, environment, and cost in planning, delivering, and evaluating patient care.
3. Monitors patient responses and modifies plans of care accordingly. Administers medications according to standard nursing practices. Develops and manages an individualized plan of care that directs RNFA interventions. Implements, manages, and coordinates perioperative care related to RNFA interventions. Evaluates patient progress towards outcomes and systematically evaluates nursing practice quality.
4. Participates in professional development and lifelong learning. Seeks out learning opportunities, evaluates practice against current standards, and contributes to the growth of peers and colleagues.
5. Integrates knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet patient and family needs throughout the continuum, including education. Incorporates research findings into practice. Practices ethically, advocates for perioperative health safety, and provides leadership in the profession and practice setting.
