Job summary

Itron is seeking a Firmware Engineer Intern to join our Product Development team in West Union, South Carolina, beginning in January 2027. You will gain hands‑on experience supporting the design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of embedded Linux firmware for Itron electric meters.

Currently pursuing a related technical degree.
Programming experience, including knowledge of object‑oriented programming.

Responsibilities

Support firmware and software development activities for products in Utilities & Energy, focusing on quality and reliability.
Contribute to the full project lifecycle by assisting with requirements gathering, development planning, coding, code reviews, testing, and documentation.
Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot firmware and software components under guidance of experienced engineers.
Participate in designing, implementing, and validating firmware solutions using sound engineering practices.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver customer‑centric, innovative solutions that align with team goals.
Support testing and validation activities, including executing test plans and documenting findings.
Identify problems, investigate root causes, and contribute to solutions in an accountable and agile manner.
Participate in technical discussions, team meetings, and project reviews with manager support.
Maintain clear technical documentation and communicate project status, risks, and recommendations.
